“Japanese tradition has been polished in people’s lives for ages.”
Traditional crafts with a history of a thousand years have been polished by both ordinary people and craftsmen, whose reliable skills and aesthetic sensibility are something Japan boasts to the world.
CLASIMONs conveys to the present traditional skills and beauty from a new viewpoint to meet the needs of today.
Conveying traditional Japanese skills and beauty to enrich our lives from new viewpoints to meet the needs of today.
The Tan’nan region of Fukui Prefecture with its main cities, Echizen City and Sabae City, is the center of five nationally designated traditional crafts. To have as many as five such traditional crafts in such a limited region is rarely found nationwide. This region can be considered strong in craftsmanship. It can also be said that quality and aesthetic sense have been passed on and polished for a thousand years by the people living there.
But due to mass production and consumption in modern society, traditional crafts-producing areas throughout the nation are scaling down under modern conditions. Mass production will keep flowing as the main stream supporting consumers’ needs; however, traditional crafts have been drawing more public attention as an increasingly visible tributary of craftsmanship.
Some instances of this are a return to tradition accomplished by producing new brands of traditional crafts and opening brand shops, by foreign visitors longing for something Japanese, by diversification of consumers and their buying, by anti-globalization and returning to Japanese brands, value-added vintage products, among other things.
CLASIMONs would like to promote and offer products from a new viewpoint to meet consumers’ needs through traditional craftsmanship that has been polished by ordinary people and craftsmen.
